Gospel | City Network

Vision:  The people of God working together to reach Bangkok.  What if pastors, ministry workers and community leaders pulled out a map and drew a circle around the city?  What if unity in the gospel allowed the body of Christ to work more closely in training leaders, multiplying churches and meeting felts needs throughout Bangkok?

Status:  In conversations with local pastors, we have identified three areas of need:  tools and resources to mobilize the church for church planting and gospel renewal, space for current pastors and aspiring church planters to engage relationally and build unity, opportunities for training and equipping leaders.  So far we are seeing opportunities emerge for expository preaching training for pastors and a unified platform for equipping new ministry workers.  In 2018, we will begin building a library of digital content that can be shared with the broader Thai church community.  We also have several Thai leaders that plan to receive training with an organization called City to City.

Needs:  $10,000 Annually

  • Digital Content Development  |  Video Equipment, Editing, Web Hosting, Printing

Goer Community

Vision:  Laying the foundation to see people go from apprentice to leader.  New missionaries arrive in Bangkok every month.  They come from all over the world through different churches, denominations and sending organisations.  What if there was a unified community that could welcome in these new goers?  What if they had a built-in structure of community and development in their first term of serving in Bangkok?

Status:  There will be an initial community formed on the east side of Bangkok.  Our family will have a central role in leading this community.  We have aligned ourselves with colleagues in South Africa who are seeing fruit from a specific model of missional community there.  You can learn more about them by visiting East Mountain.  We are investigating how a ministry center might grow our efforts in this area.  In 2018, we will launch our first community, hold a special summer training institute and seek ways to grow our full-time staff in the city.

Steeped in Grace Women’s Community

Vision:  Creating spaces for women in ministry to grow in their journey with God.  During language school, Kate developed friendships with female classmates who were also studying Thai.  Those women now live throughout the country in the location of ministry.  In the last six months, a community has emerged.   God has begun to shape a vision for Kate to help facilitate these communities of women in ministry.

Status:  Currently, there is an online bible study that happens weekly.  There are about 11 women that join from around the country.  They connect, study God’s word and pray for one another.  In the Fall of 2017, Kate hosted the first weekend retreat in Bangkok for these women.  She now helps facilitate two groups connecting every other Monday online.  As the groups grow, she will seek to equip and develop other women to lead the groups.

Needs:  $6,000

Thai Emerging Leaders Network

Vision:  Finding, envisioning, developing the future leaders of the Thai church.  Last year I was at a global gathering of emerging ministry leaders.  Nearly every country on the planet was represented.  When the East Asia region gathered for a special meeting, it was obvious that the Thai church was under-represented.  Most East Asia countries had at least 10-20 emerging leaders at the gathering.  Thailand had ONE!  We are committed to building a community of emerging leaders in Bangkok.  We want to create space for these young Thai leaders to dream, be heard and be affirmed in how God is calling them.

Status:  We have identified a core group of 3-4 leaders to start with.  As these leaders begin to gather, we anticipate opportunities for training, regular time together and a platform for having a voice (blogging, podcast, etc…) in the Thai church community.  We’d also like to explore a envisioning trip where these leaders can learn from others working in urban context within the region.

Needs:  $6,000

  • Two Training Retreats  |  Venue Rent, Meals, Resources
  • Online Platform for Thai Leaders  |  Website Development, Equipment for Podcast / Videos
  • Envisioning Trip  |  Travel, Meals

Ministry House

Vision:  Where leaders gather.  It is a simple concept, but rarely is there a common space that can be shared by many.  You will notice that many of the above projects mention ‘venue rent.’  This is ministry life in the urban context.  Most churches and outreaches are renting their space for Sunday or already have it committed for multi-use during the week.  In general, Thais don’t have a place to connect or meet at.  That is why the malls are so big and frequent throughout the city.  I dream of the day that we can have houses/townhouses throughout the city that are a gift to the ministry community.  Church on Sunday.  Short-term team orientation on Monday.  Theological training on Tuesday.  Prayer night.  Worship collective.  English training.  Missional community gathering.

Status:  We are currently scouting a few communities to determine ideal locations for a first and possibly second ministry house.  As we see the projects above take shape, we can assess how urgent this need is.  The goal is to have funding in place by the Spring of 2018 so we can find a space by the summer.  This will help to propel other ministry endeavors forwards.

Needs:  $20,000 Annually

  • Fundraising Trip  |  Flights, Hotels, Meals
  • Up-Fitting House  |  Paint, Repairs, Furnishing
  • Ministry House  |  Monthly Rent, Utilities
